Dorothy Gale is abducted by a tornado from a farm in Kansas to the magical land of Oz and travels with her new friends to a wizard who can help her return to Kansas and help her friends.

They follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and along the way they encounter a scarecrow who needs a brain, a Heartless Tin Man and a cowardly lion who wants courage. The counselor asks the group to bring him a broom from the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.
