They look innocent, mostly old, very polyester, and married in their cars. But, as Dan Torrance knows, and among those studied by Abra Stone, the «True Knot» is almost immortal, and lives off the «steam» produced by children with «great» when they are slowly tortured to death. Then the residents of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent a terrible childhood, are disturbed for decades, and desperately want to demolish his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism and violence. He eventually settles in New Hampshire, the AA community that supports him, and works in a nursing home, where the remaining «radiant power» provides fairly essential comfort for dying people. With the help of the previous cat, he becomes a «Sleep Doctor». Dan then meets Abra’s abandoned stone, and her striking gift, the brightest brilliance ever seen, which makes Dan’s demons flash again and calls him to fight for Abra.
